Hello Friends!

If you’re looking for an easy way to save money, reduce plastic waste, and become a little more self-sufficient, making your own glass cleaner is a great place to start.
I’ve been making homemade cleaners for years, and this glass cleaner is one I keep coming back to. The ingredients are simple, the cost is only pennies per bottle, and it does a fantastic job on windows, mirrors, shower doors, and glass tabletops.

One of the things I love most is being able to refill the same glass spray bottle over and over again instead of constantly buying plastic bottles from the store.

Why Make Your Own Glass Cleaner?
– Inexpensive to make
– Quick to mix together
– Refillable and low waste
– Free from unnecessary dyes and fragrances
– Effective on windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces

The secret to a streak-free finish is using distilled water, which helps prevent mineral deposits, combined with rubbing alcohol for fast evaporation and a tiny amount of dish soap to cut through grease and fingerprints.

Classic Streak-Free Glass Cleaner Recipe
This is my go-to recipe and the one I use most often.
Ingredients
2 cups room temperature distilled water
2–3 tablespoons white vinegar
2–3 tablespoons rubbing alcohol
4–6 drops mild dish soap
Directions:
– Add all ingredients to a clean spray bottle and gently shake to combine.
– Spray onto glass and wipe with a clean microfiber cloth OR I like to use a damp Swedish towel and finish with a microfibre cloth

Cornstarch Glass Cleaner
If you’re dealing with extra greasy fingerprints or stubborn residue, this version works surprisingly well.
Ingredients:
2 cups warm water
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions:
Combine ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well before every use.
The cornstarch helps lift grease and leaves glass looking polished and clear.

Tips for Streak-Free Windows
Even the best cleaner won’t perform well if the technique is off.

Here are a few simple tips:
– Use distilled water whenever possible (or reverse osmosis water works well too)
– Clean with a microfiber cloth rather than paper towels or I like to start with a damp Swedish town and finish with a microfibre cloth
– Work from top to bottom.
– Avoid cleaning windows in direct sunlight.
– Finish with long, straight wiping motions.

Add a Fresh Scent
If you don’t enjoy the smell of vinegar, add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
Some popular choices include:
– Lemon
– Lavender
– Peppermint
– Sweet orange
A little goes a long way.

Homemade cleaners are one of the easiest places to start if you’re interested in a more self-sufficient lifestyle. They require very little effort, cost far less than store-bought products, and help reduce household waste. This simple glass cleaner has earned a permanent spot in my cleaning cupboard, and chances are you already have everything you need to make a batch today.
