There was no way I could launch a little book collection at the market without saying hello to my neighbours… the Penticton Library! One of my favourite weekly traditions is taking my daughter to the Penticton library to pick out a fresh stack of books, breathe in that ‘book air’ and come home excited to dive into new stories together! The Penticton Library has always been such a special place for our family, with its wonderful children’s programs and shelves full of adventures waiting to be discovered. My love of books inspired this collection of hypoallergenic book earrings, complete with tiny floral covers, along with my little bookkeepers bookmarks for fellow book lovers. In a world that’s always asking us to scroll, I’m choosing books. More pages, less screens. More stories, less scrolling. 🙌📚 A huge thank you to Julia, Melissa, and everyone at the Penticton Library for having fun with me on this collaboration! Real aloe doesn’t glow. Nature doesn’t need synthetic dyes like FD&C Green No.3 to work. Real & Fresh Aloe Spray Recipe: 👇🏼 1. Harvest 3 to 4 thick, healthy aloe leaves at a time, picking from the outer edges of the plant. Make sure they’re fresh and free of any mold or spots. Cut the leaves close to the stem since most of the good stuff lives at the base. 2. Give them a good rinse and dry. Then stand the leaves upright in a glass so the yellow sap (aloe latex) can drain out—it usually takes about an hour. 3. Next, trim off the prickly edges with a knife. Cut the leaves into smaller pieces to make handling easier. 4. Scoop out the clear gel inside using a spoon or your fingers, that’s the magic you want. 5. To get a smooth, silky aloe gel, toss the gel into a blender. I like to add a tablespoon of lavender hydrosol for extra soothing power. Blend until smooth. 6. Strain the blended gel to remove any pulp, then pour it into a glass spray bottle . Since this recipe has no preservatives, keep it in the fridge and use within 1-2 weeks. I like to make it fresh as often as possible. Use for after sun skin care or daily skin care! 🎄 Christmas in July is my reminder to can one or two extra jars every canning session. By December, you’ve got a pantry full of thoughtful gifts without the last-minute rush! 🙌🧺 🎁 🙌 I keep an eye out for baskets all year long, or use the little wooden crates from the hardware store. Add a natural ribbon, a sprig of pine and fill them with each person’s favourites. I’ll even include a handwritten recipe card, like my pickled fennel tartar sauce to go with a jar of pickled fennel. Some of my favourite basket collections are: 🍓 Jam or preserves 🥒 Pickles / pickled beans or cauliflower 🌶️ Pickled jalapeños 🫘 Baked Beans 🧅 Pickled fennel 🍅 Salsa 🍑 Chutney 🧄 Garlic confit or pickled garlic 🍎 Applesauce 🍐 Pear pie filling 🍎 Apple and pear butters 🍗 BBQ Sauce Homemade gifts are always appreciated and a practical way to not feel overwhelmed snd financially drained at Christmas! I can’t tell you how good it feels to give canned food as gifts! One or two extra jars at a time is all it takes to have Christmas nearly finished before summer is over. 🎁 Save for later!
