Hello Beautiful Friends!

This handmade, chemical-free sunscreen is a recipe I learnt while working in luxury spas in Bali. It uses simple ingredients and is easy to make, and I love the soft natural scent.

Ready to make your own? I’ve shared the full step-by-step recipe below.

NATURAL HOMEMADE  SUNSCREEN RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1/4 cup virgin coconut oil (natural mild SPF and antibacterial)
  • 1/4 cup beeswax (adds water resistance)
  • 2 tbsp shea butter (moisturizing + mild SPF)
  • 1 tsp vitamin E oil (preservative and skin nourishing)
  • 1 tsp Red Raspberry Seed Oil & Carrot Seed Oil (antioxidants, moisturizing + believed to have a mild SPF)
  • 2 tbsp shea butter (moisturizing + believed to have a mild SPF)
  • 2 tbsp non-nano zinc oxide (is a mineral UV filter)

Instructions:
– In a double boiler, melt almond coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax.
– Once fully melted, remove from heat and let cool slightly (but not solidify).
– Stir in vitamin E, carrot oil and raspberry oil
– Slowly whisk in the non-nano zinc oxide powder — avoid breathing it in! Use a face mask to ensure you don’t breathe it in.
– Pour into a glass jar or tin and let cool completely.
– Label & store in a cool spot. Shelf life:  approx. 6 months. I like to keep mine in the fridge because it has such a nice cooling effect on the skin when applying.

Usage & Notes:
– Reapply every 2 hours or after swimming. Keep it in your cooler at the beach!
– Not waterproof—though beeswax helps, reapply after water exposure.
– Natural SPF ranges between 15–30 depending on non nano zinc oxide % and base oils.
– Always patch test before full use and do your due diligence – research the ingredients you are using to be aware of any allergies!
