Why I Can on an Outdoor Cooker Stove
Share The Bliss
Hello Friends!
Am I crazy canner or is this the best thing ever? I started canning on an outdoor camping stove when our kitchen’s glass-top stove wasn’t getting hot enough for a rolling boil. Out came the old camping stove, and I haven’t looked back since!
Canning in my backyard is perfect for me. My kitchen remains intact and available for my family, while the “crazy canning lady” is outside in her canning zone, sparing our family and the kitchen from canning season.
The backyard is my canning happy place! I’m outside on a sunny day or under the moon (depending on how crazy it got that day)!
I fill large tubs with water and wash my veggies right on the grass—water everywhere, and it doesn’t matter! I prep everything on the picnic table, free from worrying about dirtying the floor because it’s just my deck. So I can let things fly, drop scraps on floor and simply hose off later on!
I can handle larger volumes because my camping stove can hold two canning pots. Switching jar sizes is a breeze; I can easily remove and refill water with my hose without having to carry heavy pots around. If water spills over, it just hits the deck and dries quickly.
Of course I have to check weather, make sure it’s not windy, not to hot, not to cold… or I have to move my camper stove to a secluded area.
But other than that, it really is the best place for me!
What do you think canners? Is this something for you?
