Frame a 12 x 18" Fine Art Print

Hello Friends!
Framing one of my 12×18” fine art prints is a straightforward process. Whether you prefer to visit a local frame shop or order a frame online, you have a variety of options to suit your style and budget.
Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect frame:
1. Direct Fit: 12×18” Frame
One simple option is to frame your 12×18 print in a 12×18 frame. This approach showcases the entire artwork without any additional borders. It’s a clean and minimalist look, ideal if you want the focus to remain solely on the print itself.
2. With a Border: 13×19” Frame
My 12×18” print includes a one-inch white border around the image, so you can consider using a 13×19” frame. This setup will display the white border, creating a natural matting effect without the need for an additional mat. For instance, I recently purchased a 13×19” real wood and glass frame for just $39, which perfectly suits this style. I purchased this frame for one of my favourite fine art prints, ‘Twilight Escape’ as a gift for my husband for Fathers Day! (Hope he doesn’t look at this post!)
3. Matted Frame: Adding a Mat for Depth
To add depth to the artwork, you can frame your print with a mat. Ensure that the mat opening is exactly 12×18” inches to fit your print, and choose a frame that is 13×19” or larger to accommodate the mat. A popular choice is a 16×20” frame with a mat opening of 12×18”.
Additional Tips:
• Materials: Consider the materials of the frame. Real wood and glass frames tend to provide a high-quality, durable finish. However, there are also excellent options in metal and acrylic that can match your decor style.
• Style: Think about the style of the frame in relation to your print and the room where it will be displayed. Classic, contemporary, rustic—choose a frame that complements the overall aesthetic.
• Professional Assistance: While you don’t need a custom-made frame, taking your print to a local framing store or gallery can offer more choices in terms of style, materials, and matting options. They can provide expert advice to ensure your artwork looks its best.
