Lilac Sugar Body Scrub - From Winter Skin to Summer Glow

Hello Friends!

There’s a small window every spring where lilacs are in full bloom and if you know all the magical benefits,  you don’t waste it.
A couple of weeks ago, I made a batch of lilac sugar to capture that amazing scent. After sweet peas, it’s my second favourite scent! Now it’s time to turn it into something you can actually use.

This lilac sugar body scrub is one of the easiest, most affordable skincare products you can make and it leaves your skin feeling soft, polished, and ready for sunshine.
Winter skin → shorts ready.

I make my own skincare products because it is simple to do, and there are no fillers, no synthetic fragrance just real ingredients from your kitchen (and garden).

You’ll need:
• 1 cup homemade lilac sugar
• 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
Mix and spoon into a clean jar.

For a finer scrub: pulse your lilac sugar in a food processor first.

To use:
In a warm shower, gently massage the scrub in circular motions onto your skin and rinse with warm water.
I use this for body only because I find sugar can be too rough for the face.

Store: sealed jar, use as needed.
Shelf life is pretty good for this one, up to three months if it lasts that long!
Because it’s just sugar + oil, it’s naturally preserving as long as no water gets into the jar. Optional: add a few drops of vitamin E oil to extend shelf life.

To keep it fresh longer:
• Use dry hands or a spoon (no wet fingers)
• Keep the lid tightly sealed
• Store in a cool, dark spot

Lilac Sugar Recipe (Start Here)
If you haven’t made lilac sugar yet, here’s how:
You’ll need:
• Fresh lilac blossoms (common lilac only)
• White sugar

Instructions:

  • Gently remove lilac blossoms from the stems (avoid green parts).
  • Layer sugar and blossoms in a jar (sugar → lilacs → sugar).
  • Lightly press and seal the jar.
  • Let it sit for 3–7 days so the sugar absorbs the scent. (Shake Daily)
  • Remove blossoms (or leave for a stronger infusion, ensuring no moisture develops).
You’re left with a beautifully scented floral sugar you can use in skincare or baking.

Other Floral Scrub Ideas
Once you start, it’s hard to stop:

• Lavender sugar scrub (calming, classic)
• Rose sugar scrub (soft + romantic)
• Chamomile sugar scrub (gentle + soothing)
Same method — just swap the florals.

A Quick Safety Note
Make sure you’re using common lilac (Syringa vulgaris), not Japanese lilac.
And always avoid spraying or harvesting from treated areas.

Patch test first. For external use only. Discontinue if irritation occurs.
