Make Your Own Natural Vapour Rub Recipe

Share The Bliss Â
Hello Beautiful Friends!
This vapour rub has been a staple in my home for over 15 years. After spending time in New Zealand, I learned about the incredible traditional uses of Manuka oil and began blending it into a simple vapour rub.
Welcome to Oceans Bliss Portal! Let’s dive into a seasonal remedy I always keep on hand. I store mine in a small tin in the fridge, and I often pour a few into lip chap tubes to keep in my purse or to use on feet before putting on socks.
Below is the version I make for adults, along with notes on how to adapt it for babies and young children.
Homemade Vapour Rub Recipe
Ingredients:
-
1/2 cup coconut oil or almond oil
-
2 level tablespoons beeswax pastilles (or grate your own, which is what I do!)
-
15 drops wild Manuka oil (20%)
-
20 drops Eucalyptus oil
-
20 drops Peppermint oil
-
10 drops Rosemary oil
-
10 drops Cinnamon or Clove oil (optional)
Instructions:
-
Melt the beeswax and carrier oil together in a double boiler until just melted.
-
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Add essential oils and stir well.
-
Pour into jars, tins, or lip chap tubes and allow to fully set before sealing.
Gentle Notes on Use 🌿
This recipe is shared for traditional and educational purposes only. Essential oils are very concentrated, and some are not suitable for babies or young children. Always use the smallest amount needed and consult a trusted healthcare provider if you have questions especially when you are new to essential oils, and when using essential oils on children.
For Babies & Children Under 6
If making this for babies or young children, be sure to use child-safe essential oils only and significantly reduce amounts.
Adjusted essential oil blend:
-
4 drops Eucalyptus
- Substitute peppermint oil with 4 drops of fir essential
-
Omit all other essential oils
