Snuggle up and bask in the enchanting glow of the Wolf Moon as we indulge in a traditional tale, a legend that has been passed down from generation to generation and recounted through the ages.

Welcome to Oceans Bliss Portal!  The ‘Tale of Two Wolves’ is a Cherokee Native American legend that teaches about the ongoing internal battle between good and evil that exists within each person. It’s author is unknown. 

The story goes something like this:

“An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. He said, “A fight is going on inside me. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. 

The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

The lesson of the story is that we all have the power to choose which “wolf” we want to feed and nurture in our lives. We can choose to cultivate positive qualities like love, kindness, and generosity, or we can choose to cultivate negative qualities like anger, envy, and greed. Ultimately, our thoughts and actions shape who we are, what we attract and the kind of life we lead. 

Now with our awareness activated to the ongoing conflict between good and evil, let’s explore a technique that can assist us in directing our thoughts towards positivity and goodness.

BLISS BUILDING TECHNIQUE: BALANCE THROUGH WORD SHIFTS

  1. When you notice a negative thought creeping into your mind, give it a name. For example, let’s say the negative thought is “anxiety.”

2. Look up the opposite word for the negative thought. In this case, the opposite of anxiety is “calm.”

3. Write down the positive word beside the negative word in your journal. Keep one column for the positive words and one column directly next to it for the negative words. Repeat this and soon you will have a list of positive and negative words that you are balancing. 

4. Whenever your mind starts to wander back to the negative thought, pull it back to the positive word. Focus on the positive word and repeat it to yourself until you feel more centered and calm.

This technique helps to retrain your mind to focus on the positive, which will lead to a more optimistic outlook and a happier state of mind.
